Role: Independent Monitor
Organization: World Health Organization (WHO), South-West Region, Nigeria
Improving child health remains a vital step toward strengthening public health outcomes in Nigeria. As an Independent Monitor under the World Health Organization’s National School-Based Deworming Programme (NSCDP), I worked closely with community stakeholders, educators, and health professionals to ensure the effective rollout of deworming interventions across schools in the South-West region.
My role focused on quality assurance, compliance monitoring, and data validation to ensure that program delivery aligns with global standards and national public health targets.
Teacher Training Observation Survey (TT OBS):
Monitored and evaluated the quality of training delivered to schoolteachers responsible for administering deworming medications, ensuring correct knowledge transfer and proper safety procedures.
Community Mobilization & Sensitization (CMS):
Assessed the effectiveness of community awareness strategies that informed parents and guardians about the goals and importance of the deworming exercise.
Deworming Day Main Survey (DD Main):
Conducted direct field observations to monitor treatment coverage, medication administration techniques, and school-level execution of deworming activities.
Data Audit & Verification:
Reviewed and validated program data for consistency and accuracy, contributing to reliable reporting for public health decision-making.
This project played a critical role in:
Enhancing treatment coverage for school-aged children
Improving program accountability and reporting
Supporting efforts toward reducing Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) infections in Nigeria
Strengthening alignment with WHO parasitic disease elimination goal
